The Princess of Wales has announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer aged 42 and is undergoing 'preventative' chemotherapy

The Princess of Wales revealed tonight that she is receiving "preventative" chemotherapy after receiving a cancer diagnosis at the age of 42.

In a moving video message recorded at Windsor on Wednesday, Catherine said that she and William "have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family" and that the news had come as a "huge shock."

It happened a few days after she was spotted grinning with Prince William as they walked out of their favorite farm store near their Windsor residence.

Speaking from a bench surrounded by daffodils and spring blossom, she said: 'It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

'As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.'

It wasn't until after Catherine had significant abdominal surgery at The London Clinic in January that the malignancy was identified. The princess's cancer type and stage have not been disclosed by Kensington Palace, which has begged the public to refrain from speculating.

It is believed that the news has been communicated to both the Queen and the King, who is now receiving treatment for cancer of his own.

As the Princess of Wales' cancer fight was made public this evening and well wishes from all around the world, including the White House, poured in, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declared that she had "the love and support of the whole country."
