Sara Evans says she has Reconciled with her husband, Jay Barker After he was arrested for serious assault and she filed for divorce

After filing for divorce more than two years ago after Jay Barker's incarceration for assault, country music artist Sara Evans has disclosed that she and her husband are back together.

In the first episode of her podcast, Diving Deep with Sara Evans, the 53-year-old Evans disclosed that she had spoken out about the event that resulted in his arrest in 2022 and that they were still married.

Barker, 51, was taken into custody after it was claimed he tried to hit Evans and her friend with his car but failed. Initially accused of felonious aggravated assault with a weapon, he eventually entered a plea of "best interest" to be spared of the misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.

Additionally, four months after Barker, a radio host and former professional football player, and Evans filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage, Evans was arrested.

Evans discussed his arrest that night, the traumatic events that followed, and their eventual reunion on her podcast.

Evans clarified that even though Barker and she are now "happy," she didn't want to give the impression that she was "advocating" for people to stay in unhealthy relationships.

She also disclosed that their marriage had been difficult for them for a while. Evans added that she found out after getting married that she was "very submissive," something her husband "took advantage of."

Evans described Barker reaching his "rock bottom" on the day he was arrested.

They got into a quarrel at a restaurant after lunch, which started their fights. Later that evening, when Evans and her daughter went to a friend's house for a bonfire, the arguments persisted.

After her first marriage to Craig Schelske ended in divorce, Evans, who has three daughters, Audrey, 19, Olivia, 21, and son Avery, 24, said: "We met for lunch, and we got into a fight because what he was hoping for was me to just forgive him like I always had and without us having to do the hard work and go to therapy... She clarified, "He became irate because he wasn't getting his way."

Evans claimed her ex was texting her frequently, blaming her for the breakup of their marriage, while she was at her friend's house for a bonfire.

That evening, we built a large bonfire at my friend's house across the street. It was her daughter, one of my kids, and my friend. She claimed that all night long, he had been messaging her, saying, "Can't believe you're doing this to us," as we were enjoying a bonfire.

However, Evans was terrified to find Barker waiting for her outside after the burning. He had pulled over in his pickup and was sitting on the side of the road when we were leaving the bonfire, she explained.
