After her eight-year-old son Saint had the honor of leaving as Lionel Messi's mascot on Sunday, Kim Kardashian has been under fire.
In the lead-up to Inter Miami's Major League Soccer match versus LA Galaxy, Messi's hand was held by the reality TV star's oldest son with musician and ex-husband Kanye West as they entered the field.
The business magnate uploaded a video of her soccer-mad kid to X, the former Twitter platform, showing him walking onto the field with the legend.
"Saint is leading Messi onto the field tonight during the LA Galaxy vs. Inter Miami game!" Kim Kardashian wrote. "He is truly living the dream!"
Nonetheless, the incident sparked backlash, with many social media users blaming Kardashian of robbing less disadvantaged kids of opportunity.
One user expressed admiration for a kid deserving of the opportunity, not someone born to billionaires.
"Discuss privilege," one additional commenter to Kardashian's post said. "I hope he can make a kick."
A comment was made by someone who remarked that material wealth is not everything. Even Messi is tradable.
With remarks like "What money can buy" and "See what money does," others echoed their ideas.
Others, on the other hand, moved quickly to support Saint, stating that he should have the same opportunity as any other youngster to realize his dream of meeting his soccer hero.
"Saint is quite deserving because he has always loved soccer and loves it so much. someone wrote. Do you really believe that he is any less worthy because he has a family and resources that allow him to have that? That's incredibly narrow-minded.
"Any kid who is a FAN is deserving!" said another. Even so, what are you talking about? He is a little boy who loves soccer. Why does his parents' financial situation diminish his merit for this moment? You are nonsensical.
Saint's love of sports is no secret to
Kardashian; in December, the celebrity called herself a "soccer mom." She posted a picture of herself and Saint's eight soccer trading cards spread out on the table from her meal at P. F. Chang's.
