Richard Lewis, a renowned musician, passed away at the age of 76 due to a heart attack after a long battle with Parkinson's

It has been announced that Richard Lewis passed away at the age of 76 following a protracted fight with Parkinson's disease.

'On a sad note, the great Richard Lewis has gone,' wrote Bette Midler on X, the first person to report the comedian's passing.

With his wife Joyce Lapinsky by his side, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star Lewis enjoyed a storied career in Hollywood as an actor, writer, and comedian. Variety verified that Lewis's death was caused by a heart attack.

According to a statement provided to Deadline by his manager Jeff Abraham, his wife Joyce Lapinsky "thanks everyone for all the love, friendship, and support and asks for privacy at this time." This confirms his passing.

Creator and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David honored his co-star in a statement released by HBO.

David added in the statement, "Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and he's been like a brother to me for most of my life," Variety reported.

He possessed the unique quality of being both the sweetest and the funniest person. But he made me cry today, and I will never be able to forgive him for that.

Lewis passed away barely one week after making jokes about his impending death and will on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.


David had previously made reference to Richard's health issues when he expressed his regret that his "pal, my great friend" was unable to attend the popular show's January 31 season 10 launch.
 


That same evening, Richard tweeted that he was not capable of making the premiere, confirming that he was not up to it. If only I and my wife could have shared all the love in the room. Many dreamers' dreams came true thanks to @HBO and LD.

Richard was gushing about the event in what would be his last post on X, writing, "What a night! Episode 3 of #curbyourenthusiasm was fantastic. On February 18, the tweet was published.

Curb Your Enthusiasm creator David was born three days before Lewis. They were born in 1947 in the same year and in the same city, Brooklyn.

Among Lewis's many credits is a long-running part in the popular comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm as a fictionalized version of himself. He made a comeback for the 12th and final season of the show, which aired this year.
